Review: SOUND TRIBE SECTOR NINE & PNUMA TRIO, MARQUEE THEATER, TEMPE, AZ 10/24/2008
Yes, Levy and I went to the much anticipated STS9 show last night. I think we had been talking about this show for a good month before we found ourselves at the Marquee last night. We arrived early enough to have a few beers and get a good look at the stage setup.
I confirmed my hunch that SoundTribe is a High End Systems band when it comes to lighting, as I saw a HOG 500 console as well as many HES fixtures onstage. We parked ourselves literally front row on the railing and I got some great shots/ video.
The Pnuma Trio opened the show.
and although I thought a couple of the songs lacked any real structure, I gave Pnuma a B+ for making me get down early.
SoundTribe came on shortly after 10pm and both Levy and I were hyped by this point. The downside to being right up front at the Marquee was the sound being less than optimal. We were saturated by David Murphy's low-end(which was not always a bad thing) and I found it hard to pick up Hunter's guitar playing on some tunes.
While not the best SoundTribe show ever it was pretty solid. The lights were excellent at points and it really makes me happy to see HES gear in action.
Highlights for me were the Metameme,F. Word, and Move My Peeps
Plus the Tap-In encore was great for two reasons. One, that Levy could not stop jumping up and down the whole song, and two, it was a sweet version. I caught most of the Tap-In encore on video but my camera is not importing it to iphoto....will work on getting that up.
Overall, we had a great time and it was nice to get out and see some amazing music.
